#road2reading Challenge - upcoming Candlewick transitional readers 9.05.17

All journeys have a starting place.
This is a weekly place to find books and tools
that you may use with readers at the start of their reading journey.
Join in the conversation at #road2reading.

Candlewick has some fantastic upcoming transitional chapter books.  Although very different from each other, I think they are all going to be a hit with young readers!  Make sure these are on your radar!

The Infamous Ratsos Are Not Afraid
The Infamous Ratsos Are Not Afraid
written by Kara LaReau
illustrated by Matt Myers
publishes Sept. 12th

This one has been on my radar for quite some time because I loved the first book, The Infamous Ratsos. I was so glad that it got some love from the Geisel committee, I think it was a great choice!  The Infamous Ratsos is one of the first books I hand off to readers who are looking for chapters but need some support.  This second book will also be well recommended by me!  Featuring short chapters, an easy to follow story line and illustrations that support the reader, this book should be well loved by readers!  Although it can be read as a stand alone, readers who are familiar with the first book will be thrilled these characters are back!

Eugenia Lincoln and the Unexpected Package (Tales from Deckawoo Drive #4)
Eugenia Lincoln and the Unexpected Package
written by Kate DiCamillo
illustrated by Chris Van Dusen
publishes Oct. 10th

Since the Mercy Watson series, the Lincoln sisters have been two of my favorite characters.
In this book, we get to explore more of Eugenia's character and the music she may have deep within her heart!  There's also a little mystery to solve and I must say, albeit predictable, it has a very sweet solution!

Brave Red, Smart Frog by Emily Jenkins
Brave Red, Smart Frog: A New Book of Old Tales
written by Emily Jenkins
illustrated by Rohan Daniel Eason
publishes Sept. 5th

This is a book I would've loved as a young child.  I have fond memories of my father reading stories such as these to me.  Traditional tales told with a new view - be sure to read the author's note to understand these new tales.  Jenkins has asked herself questions of the characters in these old fairy tales and sets off to tell them in her own words.

Don't miss Alyson's post about a new series.
