The Gingerbread Man Loose at the Zoo - 3rd grade review 6.02.16

So many of you have had the pleasure of skyping with authors and interacting with them through Twitter.  We've seen the magic that can happen when students get to talk and get feedback from the rock star authors themselves.

A very lucky class at my school got to witness this first hand this year.  The fortunate third graders in Mrs. Wake's third grade class formed a relationship with Laura Murray, author of the "The Gingerbread Man Loose..." series.  Hopefully you read her wonderful Nerdy Book Club post about the inspiration for her series.  After a Skype session and some tweets, the students in Mrs. Wake's class were the lucky recipients of an F&G of Laura's new book, The Gingerbread Man Loose at the Zoo, publishing August 23rd.  I'll let Mrs. Wake tell you a little bit more:

You know it’s going to be a great day when you receive a folded and gathered (F&G) copy of the newest book by Laura Murray!  We met Ms. Murray through Skype back in February for World Read Aloud Day.  My third graders loved reading other Gingerbread Man adventures as they followed that pesky little cookie through a school, a firehouse, through the holidays, and now…the zoo!
When we Skyped with Ms. Murray, we learned that she used to be a teacher and got her ideas from her experiences in the classroom. That was a game changer for my third graders as they witnessed a real example of how an everyday experience at school could be transformed into an interactive, whimsical narrative filled with rhyme, figurative language and humor!  Ms. Murray has provided not only entertainment, but also a great mentor text for older elementary children!
Come August of 2016, teachers can add this gem to their classroom libraries!  I’d love to take my students to the zoo on a field trip and model some sort of scavenger hunt after this adventure!  The possibilities are endless!
