Slice of Life is a weekly event hosted by Two Writing Teachers.
It's hard being a parent.
It's hard watching your child try but not succeed.
It's hard when you know they can do it, but didn't get it right.
Sometimes you can't help but get upset.
Sometimes words come out that shouldn't.
It's hard having to say you are sorry.
That you handled the situation wrong.
It's hard being a parent.
But it's good when you do the right thing.
Yes. It is hard - so very hard. Like in anything we make mistakes. While reading this I got a lump in my throat. I've been there. ;)
ReplyDeleteSimple and brilliant. Yes, it's hard. Fortunately we can model that we are constantly learning.
ReplyDeleteParenting is one of the hardest things I've done. This is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteParenting is such a hard thing. Always. And being a sports challenge is a special challenge. I'm the mom of a quarterback. I know this place well!
ReplyDeleteLove the sharing in prose. You rock!
ReplyDeleteHang in there!
ReplyDeleteLiked how you turned this experience into a prose poem. If I could choose just one word to describe my goal as a parent, it would be intentional. And I really hate it when I blurt something out that isn't helpful for my kids. But I've also come to accept that mistakes are a wonderful opportunity to model apologies, relationship repair, and effort to improve!
