#road2reading Challenge - new early readers 8.09.18

All journeys have a starting place.
This is a weekly place to find books and tools
that you may use with readers
at the start of their independent reading journey.
Join in the conversation at #road2reading.

I'm always so glad to find books for those readers who are just starting their independent reading.  However, finding those books and making sure they are engaging, have illustrations that support the reader, sentences that you want to read that still contain easily decodable words and sight words, lovable characters.... well, now it gets tricky.
Here are two series that have all of that and more!  One is a republication and the other is a new series by a Geisel Honor winning author!

I am so glad HMH is republishing this series, I'm assuming due to the popularity of the Giggle Gang series.  Getting a new size (again, similar to the Giggle Gang books) this book will appeal to the same readers.  Featuring a cast of characters they're already familiar with from Jan Thomas' other books, each book features a humorous situation where the solution is usually apparent to the readers but not the characters.  Be sure to take a look at this series for your early readers.

Oh, I am loving this new series.  It's funny, it has a definite plot line with multiple issues, and it has a very lovable and funny character.  Things that made kids love Elephant and Piggie - the goofy situations, the over the top humorous facial expressions, the happy-yet-somewhat-surprising endings - are all seen in this series.  I can't wait to book talk this one!
