I've always loved color. As a kid, I loved finding colors that naturally go together. A favorite has always been red purple orange. I've always loved coloring - going from coloring books to drawing bubble letters and coloring designs to making stamped creations. Colors can mean so many things. For me it's the positive memories. It's a relaxing activity. But what do they mean to you? What does it make you think about?

My quick thoughts
I think this book is a great one to explore with young readers. It's a book that begs discussion and to be read multiple times! Talk about color:
- is there a color they identify with?
- Why do they like it?
- What are there memories?
- What does color mean to them?
- Can color surprise you?
Since this book is a collaboration of many artists, take the time and look at their work:
- how do they view color?
- did the color invoke a memory? a feeling? shades of color?
- how did they depict it in their illustration?
- did any of the artist's works surprise you? (Lauren Castillo's surprised me - this spread was so different than what I've seen her do... her talent always amazes me!)
- notice the style of writing, how did that go along with the illustration or color depiction?
If you live anywhere near the Eric Carle Museum in Amherst, Massachusetts, be sure to check out this exhibit. It can be seen until August 27th. My dear friend, Lesley Burnap, visited the exhibit and shared some pictures with me. I would love to spend time there. Maybe your summer travels will take you out East!
