Spotlight Friday - series to teach theme

Time to get ready for the weekend!
Kick up your feet and find a good place to read.
Sharing #booklove for your classroom or library.
Spotlighting a book or two because these books deserve the spotlight!

In honor of tomorrow's Ninja Day, I'm spotlighting a series that highlights the martial arts and the practice of all things zen:

Tales of Bunjitsu Bunny                                      More Tales of Bunjitsu Bunny

I first found Bunjitsu Bunny in Tales of Bunjitsu Bunny about a year ago after the first book ended up on John Schu and Travis Jonker's Top Books of 2014 list.  I had not read it, but quickly purchased it after reading my library copy.  It was followed up in 2015 with Bunjitsu Bunny's Best Move.  Author John Himmelman captures the heart of martial arts and thinking with your head, not reacting in violence.

This is a wonderful series when teaching theme.  Sometimes the longer picture books, and certainly even longer middle grade novels, can be hard to use when doing minilessons on theme.  The Bunjitsu Bunny books are divided up into short chapters, each its own story that often contains a lesson or theme.  Take a look at these books when you need something quick, yet powerful, to teach students theme.
