Nonfiction Picture Book Wednesday 12.16.15 My Favorite Nonfiction Picture Books from 2015

#nfpb2015

I am excited to join Alyson Beecher and other friends in this weekly challenge.  Finding great nonfiction picture books isn't a challenge anymore, there are so many wonderful books to be read now!  The challenge is sharing them with as many people as possible so they can find this wealth of literature to share with our young readers.  Thanks to Aly for starting this weekly link-up and thanks to all who join in!  See all of the posts at kidlitfrenzy.

It's that time of year when countdown lists pop up.
Here are mine for 2015!
Tuesday: My Favorite Picture Books
Wednesday:  My Favorite Nonfiction Picture Books
Thursday:  My Favorite Middle Grade Books

I really have appreciated Alyson's weekly Wednesday link up.  Before I started blogging, it was a way for me to find new nonfiction picture books.  My perspective on them changed.  Drastically.  Then, once I started linking up, it made me consistently read nonfiction books.  And write about them.  And when you do that, you start thinking about them more.  How you can categorize them.  What goes together.  How you can link content and books.  It has really helped me grow professionally.  Of course, it helps that there is so much amazing nonfiction out there!  Here are some standouts for me that I read in 2015:

  1. Wow, beautiful list! I've read them all except for How To Swallow A Pig and Attack! Boss! Cheat Code! What would I add? Maybe Orangutanka and I loved Big Red Kangeroo, too. So many lovely ones this year!

  2. I have a lot of these on my list! I have How To Swallow a Pig in my library pile because I haven't read it yet and heard so much about it. Another Chris Barton book I need to read! These end-of-year lists are so much fun. :-)

  3. Go, ATTACK! BOSS! CHEAT CODE!, go! Thank you so much for including this one, Michele -- it got overlooked compared to my Reconstruction and Nutcracker books, but kids practically levitate at school visits when I mention its existence.

  4. So many favourites!! I actually brought ATTACK! BOSS! CHEAT CODE! home for my software engineer husband to read, and he kept saying how he wished they had had books like that available when he was a kid, he might've actually gone into the library ;)

  5. These are amazing titles and a few we haven't read - I don't know how we missed Steve Jenkin's book How to Swallow a Pig. Can't wait to read it

  6. I am still working on my list but we have a lot of overlaps! Still a couple I haven't gotten to that I feel would make my list but not sure how much more time I have for reading this month. I especially want to read Growing Up Pedro. I have loved everything I've read by Matt Tavares.
