As I read picture books, and on those that make me stop and pause at their beautiful illustrations, my thoughts inevitably turn to the Caldecott Award. One of the requirements is the illustrator must live in the United States. Every year there are some books that I LOVE that don't qualify for the Caldecott because the illustrator lives elsewhere. Here are some of my favorite illustrated picture books from 2016 that do not qualify for the Caldecott:
